The L79 series (including the L7909) consists of three-terminal negative voltage regulators. They are designed to provide local on-card regulation, eliminating the distribution problems associated with single-point regulation. Because they share the same voltage options as the L78 positive standard series, they are particularly suited for split power supply applications. Each device features internal current limiting, thermal shutdown, and safe area protection.
