The SN54LS181 is a 4-bit Arithmetic Logic Unit (ALU) and function generator built with a complexity of 75 equivalent gates on a single monolithic chip. It is designed to perform 16 binary arithmetic operations on two 4-bit words when the mode control input (M) is set to a low-level voltage to enable internal carries. It can also perform 16 distinct logic functions of two Boolean variables when the mode control input (M) is driven high to disable the internal carry.
